For Valentine's Day, I really wanted to make a pillow using this L.O.V.E. paper piecing pattern I saw popping up on a bunch of blogs.
I printed out the pattern a few weeks before Valentine's Day. And got started.
I think I did 2 letters per night. The pattern and instructions were very good. But paper piecing is just very awkward for me. It's like sewing backwards in a mirror. My brain was hurting from trying to figure out where to put the fabric scraps in order for it to properly cover the pattern piece. It probably also doesn't have that I was still on my self-imposed fabric fast and had to use the tiny amounts of reds and pinks in my stash. But! I did it. And I was proud of myself for finishing a holiday project in time for the actual holiday! However, to my shock and dismay, as long as those paper pieced letters sat there, they did not turn themselves into a pillow! Lazy letters.
Fast forward to April. Oh hi forgotten about L.O.V.E. letters! I'm bored and can't buy new fabric so let's turn you into something useful, shall we?
I wanted to turn this into a square pillow, so I added a little bit of fabric to the left hand side. I added batting and quilted around the letters in an echoing pattern. Again, I used the invisble zipper and the plump pillow insert trick I talked about here.
Here she is, all done and 10 months early for next Valentine's Day!
